Your humble Editor grew up in Sweden and as American media was expensive for the state owned TV station, we ended up with a lot of shows from the UK. “The Saint” was one of them. My dad and I used to watch this show together.
I even had a Corgi Toys “Saint” Volvo P1800
I also used to draw that stick figure everywhere. I am sure there is an old school desk in Sweden with this beautiful art work still on it.
I am sure that most folk probably have seen this 1967 1800S, complete with Minilite wheels and fog lights.
Jay Leno took the car for a spin HERE when it was owned by Bill Krzastek. When Jay takes a car for a spin, it normally lasts for about 20 minutes. With this car, he kept driving for 40 minutes!
This car is now restored and owned by the Volvo museum in Göteborg, Sweden. (Editor’s Note: I would KILL for that wooden steering wheel! )
Sir Roger Moore was never afraid to pose with his Swedish car.
Movie poster from the show. I can’t help but notice that the car is left hand drive in the poster. Maybe the picture got mirrored?
However, it all started with a 1962 Jensen Volvo P1800. Check out those shoes with white socks!
Sir Roger Moore with his 1962 Jensen Volvo P1800…as cool as the other side of the pillow. The Jaguar folks that rejected the TV folks must be fuming when seeing these shots.
I just watched the Season 1, Episode 1., The Talented Husband on YouTube.
The series featured Sir Roger Moore as private investigator Simon Templar. Currently, over 200 episodes are posted. Worth a look. Smart and clever stories, acting and dialog. One thing struck me when watching, these folks really can act!
More importantly, some great driving scenes featuring the 1962 P1800 car HERE
As handsome as Sir Roger Moore was, the white 1800 car was also an important part of the cast. It was seen and of course heard through the twin SU low restriction air cleaners.
